The Watchtowers are the four corners of the world; East, South, West, and North. You cannot learn too much about them. (NOTE: Some of the information included here on Gods and Goddesses will be echoed in Chapter VI.)
THE EAST
The Watchtower to the East is attuned to the element Air. The inhabitants are Sylphs, ruled by their King Paralda and Queen Eostar.
Air is the Father. He moves the winds which carry the pollen of fertilization. He assists the Mother in bringing forth life and is aided by the sylphs. The East guards the Gates of Dawn, and rules all new beginnings. The energy of the East is swift, mercurial, and changeable.
The East rules the mind and the breath. Under his rule fall all mental, intuitive and psychic work; knowledge, abstract learning, theory; windswept hills, plains, windy beaches, high mountain peaks, high towers.
Activities of the East include divination, sourcing, vision quests, martial arts, brainstorming, philosophical debates, flower arranging, meditation, research, reading and writing.
The time of the East is Dawn, and his season is Spring. White, bright yellow, crimson and blue-white belong to him. His is the sense of smell, and the opaz. The journey of the East is the journey of perception in Chaos.
The tool of the East is the Sword. The Eastern powers are attracted by oil and incense, and the chakra of Air is the Solar Plexus.
A special incense for the East and the Air is Galbanum. Plants are frankincense, myrrh, pansy, primrose, vervain, violet, yarrow, wildflowers for creativity, and spearmint, lavender, clover and sage for meditation. The tree of the East is the aspen.

The tool of the South is the Wand and Censer. It is attracted by fire and incense. Fire is the Purifier, the Consumer. The fire of purification consumes that which has been cast into the Cauldron of Eternity. The leaping flames are assisted by the salamanders, giant and fiery spirits of fire.
The South rules energy; spirit; heat, flame; blood; sap; life; will; healing and destroying; purification; bonfires, hearth fires, and candle flames; sun; deserts, volcanoes, eruptions and explosions. Spontaneity, faith, and trust are also ruled by the South, as are elusiveness and innocence.

Fire is the Purifier, the Consumer. The fire of purification consumes that which has been cast into the Cauldron of Eternity, reshapes and balances that which is passed through the flames. Out of control, fire consumes indiscriminately, and many Fire deities are Gods of War. Banked fire is transformative without being destructive, however, and is seen in the slow fire of metabolism and the creative flame of the forge.
The South is Keeper of the Orb of the Sun. The leaping flames are assisted by the salamanders, giant and fiery spirits of fire.
The tools of the South are the Wand and Censer. The Southern power is attracted by fire and incense and the chakra of Fire is the Heart.
The Word of the Southern Watchtower is "To Will" (Life).
THE WEST
The Watchtower to the West is attuned to the element Water. The inhabitants are Undines ruled by their King Niksa and Queen Mara, and the tool of the West is the Cup. The Energy of the West is tidal -- it ebbs and flows, but never floods. It is attracted by washes and solutions. Water is the Cleanser. The Children of the Mother are refreshed by the Waters of Life. The undines lead rivers to the oceans and show fish where to bring forth their young.
The West rules the emotions, intuition and the unconscious mind, and the womb. All feelings, loves, courage, daring, and sorrows are sacred to her, as are the powers of generation and fertility.
Activities of the West include dream work, healing circles, inner healing, and acts of parenting and love.
Her sites of power are the ocean, the tides, lakes, pools, streams, rivers, springs, and wells. The Journey of the West is the journey to inner vision.
The time of the West is Twilight, and her season is Autumn. Blue, aqua, blue-green, green, gray, indigo and black belong to her. Hers is the sense of taste, and the aquamarine, and the white of sea foam in the moonlight.

The Watchtower to the North is attuned to the element Earth. The inhabitants are gnomes ruled by their King Ghob and Queen Tanu. The tool of the North is the Pentacle. The Energy of the North is steady and rhythmic. It is attuned by salts and powders. Earth is the Mother. All of life is brought forth and sustained by the Mother. She is brought forth and sustained by the Mother. She is cared for by the Elvenfolk and Nature Spirits.
The North rules the body; birth, growth and death; nature; sustenance; creativity; silence; All material gain, money, crystals, metals and gemstones are under this rule, as well. Salt crystals and quartz crystals are the bones of Her body. All that is material is of Earth, and wealth and abundance are her gifts.
The time of the North is Midnight, and her season is Winter. Black, brown, green, and green-white, and the Deep Blue of the earth as seen from space belong to her. Hers is the sense of touch and rock-crystals and salt. The chakra of Earth is the Root, or sexual chakra.

THE CENTER
The fifth element, Spirit or Ether, has no watchtower, but is represented by the center of the circle, and the space above and below the altar. Its direction is center and circumference, throughout and about, and its tool is the Cauldron.
It rules transcendence, transformation, and change. It is beyond time, for there all time is one. Its season is the Turning Wheel. Pure white, clear, and deep black belong to it. It owns the sense of hearing, and the sixth sense.
The places of the Center are everywhere and nowhere, within and without, the void, and imminence. Peak experiences are the gift of the center, as are those moments when the gods speak to or through us. Connection to Center, for those of us incarnate, is through the mediation of the True Self, or Holy Guardian Angel.
Mistletoe is special to it, and the flowering almond tree, and the sphinx.
Goddesses associated with it are Isis, Shekinah, and the Secret Name of the Goddess. Gods are Akasha and Iao.
The tool of the Center is the Cauldron. Mistletoe is special to it, and the flowering almond tree, and the sphinx. All mythical creatures take their life from center. Center is our link with the Other Side and with the Multitudinal Planes of Being.
